성경을 연구하는 방법과 방식을 통상 아래의 두가지로 요약한다.
하나 (Exegesis)는 안에서 밖으로 ('to lead out’) 가는 방법이고
다른 하나 (isegesis)는 밖에서 안으로 (reading into the text) 가는 방법이다.
Exegesis (from the Greek
ἐξήγησις from ἐξηγεῖσθαι 'to lead out') is a critical explanation or interpretation of a text, especially a religious
text. Traditionally the term was used primarily for exegesis of the Bible; however, in
contemporary usage it has broadened to mean a critical explanation of any text,
and the term "biblical exegesis" is used for greater specificity.
Exegesis includes a wide range of critical disciplines: textual criticism is
the investigation into the history and origins of the text, but exegesis may
include the study of the historical and cultural backgrounds for the author,
the text, and the original audience. Other analysis includes classification of
the type of literary genres present in the text, and an analysis
of grammatical
and syntactical
features in the text itself.
The terms exegesis and hermeneutics have been used interchangeably. However,
hermeneutics is a more widely defined discipline of interpretation theory:
hermeneutics includes the entire framework of the interpretive process,
encompassing all forms of communication: written, verbal and nonverbal, while
exegesis focuses primarily on the written text
Isegesis (formed from the Greek
preposition εἰς "into" and the ending from the English word exegesis, which
in turn is derived from ἐξηγεῖσθαι "to lead out")[1] is the
process of interpreting a text or portion of text in such a way that it
introduces one's own presuppositions, agendas, or biases into and onto the
text. This is commonly referred to as reading into the text. The act is
often used to "prove" a pre-held point of concern to the reader and
to provide h isegesis im or her with confirmation
bias in accordance with his or her pre-held agenda. Eisegesis is best
understood when contrasted with exegesis.
While exegesis draws out the meaning from a text in accordance with the context
and discover-able meaning of its author, eisegesis occurs when a reader
imposes his or her interpretation into and onto the text. As a result, exegesis
tends to be objective when employed effectively while eisegesis is regarded as
highly subjective.
An individual who practices eisegesis is known as an eisegete, as
someone who practices exegesis is known as an exegete. The term
"eisegete" is often used in a mildly derogatory fashion.
Although the term exegesis is commonly heard in association with Biblical
interpretations, the term is broadly used across literary disciplines.
쉽게 말하면 전자는 성경의 저자가 그 당시 그 형편에서 어떤 말을 하고자 했는가를 저자의 입장에서 보려하는 것이고
후자는 개인이나 단체가 견지하는 견해를 뒷받침할 성서적 근거들을 찾아 들어가는 것을 말함이다.
당연히 전자(Exegesis)가 더 성서적일 것이라는 결론이 날 수 있지만 그것 또한 우리의 연약한 생각과 눈과 인식능력의 부족으로 꼭 보아야 할것을 보지 못할 수도 있을 것이다.
나는 개인적으로 (학자의 근처에도 못가는 사람이지만) 안 (성경 자체)에서 밖 (교리나 견해) 으로
나가는 성서 연구 방식에 하나를 더 첨부해서 성경을 읽고 연구한다.
이를테면 구슬이 서 말이라도 꿰어야 보배 라는 방식이다.
한국재림교회의 성경학자이신 김 명호 목사님은 성경의 모든 주제가 창세기
1장과 3장에서
시작하므로 어떤 주제가 잘 이해되지 않을때 그 에덴 동산으로 올라가 산보를 하듯이 그 말씀들을
읽어보면 힌트를 얻게 될것이라는 말씀을 나는 매우 좋아하게 되었고 거기에서 시작한 것들을 요한 계시록 까지 내려가면서 흐름을 찾아내려는 노력을 참 많이 했었다. 그 한마디가 나에겐
성경을 바라보는 눈을 뜨게 했고 이제는 습관처럼 어떤 주제이든지 계시록까지 쭉 내려가는 강 줄기를 찾는것이 나의 성경연구의 한 방법으로 자리 잡았다.
“ 이 성경 (구약)이 내게 대하여 말한다” 고 할때에 예수님은 그 분을 중심으로 점점히 분명하게 흐르는 강줄기가 있다 라는 의미를 말씀하신 것이다.
그런 의미에서 자주자주 그 흐름과 의미에서 벗아나 있는 어떤 또다른 책들의 증언 때문에 허우적 거리게 되는 일들이 참 많이 있다. 그리고 재림교회가 그 흐름이라고 할 수 도 없는 갑작스런
eisegesis 에서 추출한 교리들로 구원의 허다한 발길들을 거스려 홀로 남기를 원하고 홀로 서려하는 그 의도 또한 내가 풀어야 할 숙제인지 아니면 우리 모두가 같이 풀어야 할 숙제인지 참으로 모를일이다.
흐름이란 적어도 돌맹이 다섯개 정도는 있어야 하는것이다.
그래야 꿸 수 있을테니까.
