빈배님,
I enjoyed reading your previous posting in which you briefly laid out your religious views, and I find them somewhat fresh and challenging.
I personally wanted to ask you if you believe that we should not confine our understanding of God to one specific denomination/religion, but transcend the individual religion and ty to find truth that is universal. Secondly, which aspect(s) of Adventistism did you find so hard to identify yourself with that you decided to withdraw your membership? I'd just be happy to continue the dialogue if you have time.
Thank you, Snow-nim, for your serious questions.
It will take long if I try to answer them in detail. Let me just mention a few things.
For the first question:
Max Mueller, the founder of scientific study of religion (Comparative Religions) said
"He [sic] who knows one [religion] knows none." This means that without having
some solid knowledge about other religions, you cannot know your own religion, either.
Any geologist who claims that he or she knows everything about the earth just by digging up
his or her own backyard cannot claim to be a terribly reliable geologist.
For the second question:
The most striking aspect I found irreconcilable with me was
Adventism's "absolute truth claim" that the SDA only has the truth and no other religions.
Well, let me stop here before it gets too long.
Cheers,
